Funding Women's Healthcare in Kenya

A portion of all proceeds of this coffee goes to the funding of a healthcare program in Kenya called Treatment, Research, and Expert Education (TREE). A primary focal point of TREE is the treatment of women's healthcare in Kenya, specifically addressing cervical cancer through mobile detection clinics within the coffee growing community that produces this beautiful offering. Over 270,000 women per year in Sub-Saharan Africa are diagnosed with cervical cancer, with over 80% of deaths associated with the cancer occurring in resource-limited settings.

Strong coffee farming families are responsible for this extraordinary Kenya coffee we’re proud to offer. Dollar for dollar, there’s no better way for us to invest in the health and security of these families than by helping to address women’s health.

About the Karuthi/Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society

Karuthi/Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society is an organization of 19 small wet mills (known as “factories,”) in and around the town of Othaya in Nyeri county, Kenya. The society was registered in 1956 with 250 farmers and has since grown to over 15,000 smallholder farmers - making this operation an economic and employment staple in the region. Many factors make coffee from Karuthi extraordinary, chief among them is a strong social unity, a holistic approach to business management and a progressive view towards quality control throughout the supply chain.
